Donsol sorsogon is a quite and peaceful place in Philippines no one knows it except its local inhabitants, until a few years it was discovered by tourist where they find the fascinating whale shark that can only be found in this destination. Before fishermen where ignorant with the ecological value of whale shark. In the vernacular they call this fish as “Butanding” or “big fish”.

Although, according to stories, the first “butanding” that was netted out in the area was also butchered. A marine biologist witnessed it and instantly recognized the fish as rare marine specie. The whale shark swim into the water surface in the morning or early afternoon. They open its mouth rhythmically when they have feed by visitors. Since this whale shark are not like dolphins and whales that when have feed they will jump up and down the water. Its makes east to all visitors that are perfectly on time visit.

According to the scientific study whale shark can travel 14,000 miles in 14 months and are capable in breeding in different sea environments. They added that whale shark preferred to live in cold water, the reason is the flourishing of planktons in the tropical seas we have. Planktons are organisms that fill the diet of the whale shark. Experts can hard to record the number of whale shark that now thrives in Donsol.
